A Celtic Cross is a cross with a circle through the arms, and these stainless steel earrings are a delightful example of this.
There are a couple of explanations for why there is a circle through the arms:
a) St. Patrick drew a cross on the round stone the pagans were worshiping as representing their God, to show how the Christian God was as important as their God.
b) Stone Celtic Crosses were usually very tall (19’ – 21’ feet) and the arms of the cross probably needed support to hold the weight of the stone.
c) Or if you prefer, a combination of both explanations!
