Many people have come in to our store and asked what is a Quaich? Indeed on first look it is hard to know what it is for, and we have had many guesses such as for holding keys, earrings and even an ashtray!
A Quaich is a Traditional Scottish Shallow Drinking Cup, used to make a toast. The two handles are said to be so that a weapon could not be held at the same time!
The main design on this quiach is the Irish Claddagh surrounded by a Celtic Knot. The Claddagh has a beautiful meaning - The Hands are for Friendship, the Heart is for Love and the Crown is for Loyalty. The handles of this quaich are adorned with Shamrocks, another Irish symbol.
