The Green Man is a pagan symbol connected with nature and with the rebirth that occurs each spring.

Although the Green Man is a pagan symbol, it was incorporated into Christianity to symbolize the death and resurrection (rebirth) of Jesus Christ. Pagan symbols (such as the Trinity Knot) were often used by the church (with the meanings changed), as it is easier to convert people if you use symbols they are familiar with. This is why you will often see the ancient pagen image of the Green Man adorning many European churches and cathedrals.
