A Cháirde
Our Scottish Festival is coming up, right on our doorstep. The 9th Annual Covenanter Scottish Festival in Quarryville, is on Saturday, 10th September 2022.
I wanted to let you know about this awesome festival a couple of weeks early, because we have discounted tickets on sale at our store. Why not drop in, and save a few bucks on the day.
This is a brilliant festival with excellent Highland Games (want to see someone throw a telephone pole (while wearing a kilt!); you may have seen sheep herding before, but have you ever seen Duck Herding?; Pipers Galore including a piping competition; Highland Dancing competition, Scottish Clans, a Harpist; Celtic Bands; Spinning and Weaving demonstrations; an “Address to a Haggis” Ceremony, and of course your favorite Celtic Vendor, Celt Wares!

Rampant Lion Kilt Pin
|
This pewter Rampant Lion Kilt Pin is full of Scottish symbolism, with no less than three (3) Scottish images.
First up, we have the Rampant Lion which is on one of Scotland’s two flags (the other one being the Saltire, also called St. Andrew’s Flag). The Rampant Lion has been used in Scotland for centuries, dating back to William the Lion, in the 1200’s.
Next, we have the Thistle, the Flower of Scotland, and also used as a Scottish symbol since the 1200’s. The purple color of the thistle’s flower, denotes Nobility, while the thorns represent the Fierceness of the Scots.
Lastly, we have the Scottish Claymore or "Claidheamh-mor" (Great Sword) in Gaelic, the famous Scottish two-handed broad sword. The Claymore is a symbol of Scottish strength and pride.
Wear this Kilt Pin to proudly show off your Scottish Heritage.

Saltire Shield on Claymore Kilt Pin
|
Any Scot would be proud to wear this Kilt Pin. It proudly displays two Scottish symbols - the Claymore Sword and the official flag of Scotland - The Saltire.
The Scottish Claymore is one of the most recognised swords in history. It is a two handed sword with an unusually long blade, and had such a fearsome reputation on the battlefield, that it was used for centuries.
Did you know that Scotland has two flags? And that both flags have at least two names? The Official Scottish National Flag is the Saltire (A white cross spread diagonally across a blue background.) This flag is also known as the Cross of St. Andrew. This flag is thought to be one of the oldest national flags in the world, still in use today. The second Scottish Flag which is called the "Royal Flag" of Scotland (Royal Standard of the King or Queen of Scots). It is also known as the "Rampant Lion" as it displays an upright lion with claws outstretched, as if in battle.
